The problem
You drive an hour to look at a job, say the number, and the customer's face falls — it's $5,000, not the $500 they pictured. The trip is wasted and the job is dead before it started.
How it works
The estimator is a priceable catalog plus a pure, tested pricing engine. A product carries a base price and rates per square foot, per linear foot, per unit, or flat; a bill of materials (railing, a landing, a permit) rides along, each scaled by how much of it the job uses; options add their own line. The engine turns a measurement into a low–high range, applying a material waste factor, a markup on cost, and a floor so you never quote below your minimum.
It handles any trade, not just rectangles: a glass panel is priced on width × height, a wheelchair ramp on the linear feet of its run. Better still, a customer can skip the tape measure — snap a photo and a vision model estimates the quantities (for a ramp, the total rise and the run it needs at ADA slope), which the engine then prices. The public tool on this site does exactly this against a real seeded ramp catalog, and saving one files the customer as a lead, with the measurements attached, into the admin.
The math lives entirely on the server — a browser never sends a total it made up, and never sees your rate table, only the quoted range — with every amount stored in integer cents. The photo call is metered per request and rate-limited, so an unauthenticated tool can't run up a bill.
